TransQueerLA Beach Day

Queer and Trans Beach Takeover!

The bois of Toolbox Trans LA: A Transmasculine Social Support Space got to talking about Pride and we thought, “How fucking awesome would it be to queer the fuck out of the beach and whatnot!”

Sometimes Pride just isn’t what we want. So let’s create an intentional space for trans, gender nonconforming, two-spirit, and intersex folks. While allies, loved ones, and lovers are welcome, we really want to center these folks. Let’s kiki! Let’s swim! Let’s share stories. Let’s revel in our joy!

Potluck style! BYOstuff. Let’s coordinate carpools! Maybe comment with what you’ll bring!

Let’s do this!

Toolbox Discussion: June 23rd, 2016

Hey peeps! Time for another discussion!

This week’s topic:

Unpacking desirability politics.

We initially wanted to talk about dating and relationships but we realized we needed to take a step back. So many of us have either been told or shown that we are somehow undesirable; that people wouldn’t love our trans bodies. So let’s disrupt that narrative and take steps toward reclaiming our own desirability.

If you can’t make it to the discussion, you can google hangout with us toolboxtransla@gmail.com.

IN LIEU OF SEX TALK THIS SAT, MAY 14TH

buck sex talk.jpg

Hey folks,

As some of you may know, there has been a movement brewing to boycott LA PRIDE. APAIT, along with other agencies, organized a community meeting on Monday to discuss the changes this year and the communities concerns about them. It was voted that there would be a community boycott because CSW LA Pride is ‪#‎NotOurPride‬! Bamby Salcedo is organizing a meeting this Saturday at the same time and place as our scheduled sex talk. This meeting is to discuss what kind of actions we can take as a community to ‪#‎ShutItDown‬! We (Destin, BUCK ANGEL, and I) felt that it is important to support and bring transmasculine voices to the conversation. So we won’t be having our usual sex talk until a later date this month. We would love for our newly formed group to participate in community action!

Hey peeps! Time for another discussion!

This week’s topic:
The history of our silenced voices. As a person assigned female at birth. As a person of color. As a transmasculine person. How have we been silenced because of our identities?

Trans Men and Competent Care

Having a child shouldn’t be arduous and humiliating for transgender men, writes one who went through the process.

“When the nurse on duty came out of the ultrasound room to call the next patient in, she glanced over at me and stopped. I’ll never forget the look of shock on her face. As she walked away, she turned her head to look back at me, not once, not twice, but three times, almost as though to make sure that what she was seeing was actually real. This, of course, caught the attention of the other patients, who now started staring at me as well. I tried to distract myself by locking my eyes on the ironic “trans inclusivity” poster on the wall in front of me, realizing with a sinking heart that the trans-competent care I had been led to expect was not going to materialize at all.”
